My Final Reflection Post

Welcome to the final post everyone! It is very bittersweet to be making this post. I have reflected a great deal in the past three posts about my main takeaways from the project as a whole, and want to take the duration of this post to focus on the reflections with this strategy. One main question I had after completing this project is how I could incorporate a passion project into a math class. After conferencing with some my peers, I know that although not conventional, it is feasible! For example, the math class can be joined with a phys-ed class to have students explore various examples of velocity and acceleration through sport that can be seen in the real world. At the end of the day, I think it is definitely worth pursuing, especially in an age of technological growth, in order to benefit the success of the students while providing variation in a subject with a stigma such as math! Thank you to all for following along with my journey! It was amazing to be able to do and I am...

Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog and THE FINAL POST! I made you all a little stop motion to celebrate the end of this Genius Hour journey. See if you can spot some common "friends" from the past week. Check it out! To recap on my journey from last week, I found that my hardest struggles involved creating a pattern with the design based on the placement of the nails. My goal for this week'sM design was to bring together my first post with my last post and practice some of the skills that I have struggled with over the past few weeks. So let's begin! The design process: The design I made was custom created for a friend that was hoping to have a piece made for her home. The fact that I was able to create this piece for her that was different from some other images I found online was such a great feeling. It made me feel like it was completely my own. I loved being able to use this design as my last project as it tied together challenging details with my o...

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my Genius Hour- passion project #2. I will admit, it was definitely hard to find the time to get this one hour in (most pieces of this size take longer than the hour), but after it was done, the satisfaction was amazing! When thinking about my second piece, I knew that I wanted to do something that was more challenging than the last. I notice that when doing string art in the past- the rounder the piece, the more challenging it is to keep cohesive. I decided to do this treble clef because it was requested by one of my friends and I knew that this would definitely challenge me more than my general research piece. The Materials Let's start by discussing the materials . I knew that the wood and nails were perfect from last time and stuck with the same barn board and finishing nails. My 2 main changes were the design and size of crocheting thread. I found that last time using such a small design, thinner thread (size 10) worked well, however, I began t...

Hi everyone and welcome to my very first progress report for my Genius Hour. Just as a refresher for some of you, I have decided to document my "mastery" in the skill of nail and string art. This has been something I have done for a couple of years, and as of recently, have wanted to make a business out of it. However, I felt that all of my designs looked pretty much the same, and what better way to push myself out of my comfort zone than with this project. Here is an image of a past piece I have made for a family member: So here we go- piece number 1. I decided to keep things simple in order to refine my skills and really note what needs some improvement and what I can do better on. Step 1 I need to design the image that I will use as a stencil for my nails. Since I have an IPad, this step was fairly easy. I used the Procreate App (which is amazing might I add and would recommend purchasing if you are into designing or drawing) to create a simple design of a mapl...

Hello and Welcome! My name is Catherine Carlucci and I am beginning my technological journey in my ICT class. I am in my fifth year of the Concurrent Education program in the Intermediate/Senior stream with my teachable subjects in Math and Geography. My passion for this career is to help students see the beauty in Math and break their anxiety with the subject. I am excited to explore technology in helping me do so throughout this course. This first post is going to highlight some of the main skills I learned in this first class. Being that one of our main projects is a Genius Hour, check out my Word Art below that outlines many of the things I am passionate about. I have chosen a butterfly to represent my mom who has passed away from Cancer. We believe that she is present in all of the butterflies! These words will be used to guide my project. I have also made a Pinterest page that outlines some of my favourite images to represent who I am. Check it out here to learn more ...
